Manny was a living legend and incredible man!  I had the honor of first meeting Manny and serving him a piece of Birthday Cake at our 241st Marine Corps Birthday Ball on 11 November 2016.  Manny was one of our Marine Corps League guests that evening and was the oldest Marine present.  As is customary at Marine Corps birthday celebrations worldwide, the oldest Marine present is given a piece of cake and after taking a bite of cake passes it onto the youngest Marine, signifying the passing of experience and knowledge from the old to the young of our Corps.  Manny was also the most popular Marine of the night!  From our Guest of Honor, a Brigadier General from HQMC, to the youngest Marine present, an 18 year old Lance Corporal, and all Marines young and old in between -  everyone wanted to talk with Manny and they were lining up all night long just to shake his hand and hear a few words from him!  A member of the greatest generation and a living legend that epitomized the phrase “Once a Marine, Always a Marine” his presence at our Birthday Ball made that evening one of the best nights of my 25 years in our beloved Corps!  Manny you were one of our best and someone that we all will miss.

Fair Winds, Following Seas and Semper Fidelis!
